on smushed-up ship names
There are certain fandoms that lend itself to smushed-up ship names. And there are fandoms that don't. Some smushed-up names are ridiculously funny (e.g., Drarry, Larry, Snarry, Dumblewald, etc.). Other smushed-up names are cracktastic (e.g., Spock/Kirk = SPORK, Bones/Kirk = BORK, Uhura/Kirk = URK*). And some smushed-up ship names should just DIE DIE DIE.
Like Destiel and Dramione.
Granted, it's not easy to find alternative smushed-up names to the two I gave above -- Casean? Hermco? -- but maybe, maybe it should be seen as a sign that the pairing shouldn't have a smushed-up ship name. Really, what's so difficult about calling them Dean/Castiel or Draco/Hermione, or, heck, DHr (using old-school** parlance)?
There should be a rule somewhere that unless the smushed-up ship name is funny and/or ridiculously awesome, people ought to stick to the [character A]/[character B] format in their headers.
*These names are what I would call them if I were to invent smushed-up ship names for these pairings, by the way. I don't think the ST fandom smushes pairings up.
**For the HP fandom, anyway
