32nd Metro Manila Film Festival
Okay. We're supposed to write a film review for any MMFF film contestant this year, so I now I'm trying to decide which one I should do a paper on.
Here's the list of contenders for the MMFF this year, and I don't know whether to laugh or cry:
1. Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo - I don't think that this will end up a flop, but erm, I really, really don't like Juday. No offense to Juday fans - I've hated her since I was a kid watching snippets of Mara, Clara, anxiously waiting for it to finish so I could watch Ang TV. (Remember that show? I swear I could still see a kid version of Paolo Contis going "NGEEE!!" in my head. Haha.)
2. Ligalig - one of the few Filipino attempts at the psycho-killer genre. I didn't like the trailer, it gave me Japanese-horror-flick vibes, a feeling which I think are worse than Hollywood-rip-off vibes. Maybe it's because I expect Japanese-horror-flicks to be, you know, in Japanese.
3. Matakot Ka Sa Karma - Horror flick. Not worth my time, as it will invariably include a tiyanak scene. (No Filipino horror flick is complete without a tiyanak scene. A Flip horror flick with no tiyanak scene is like a Filipino family flick without a song-and-dance-number scene.)
4. Enteng Kabisote 3 - Vic Sotto is only amusing if you forget that he's already old. Unfortunately for him, his age is showing. So, no. (Besides, I didn't watch the first two movies anyway.)
5. Tatlong Baraha - Now, this I want to see. It's an action-packed superhero movie, according to the plot summary, but it involves a hunchback bell-ringer from 19th century Manila possessing magic powers bestowed upon him in order to protect his fellowmen. What's not to love in this movie? xD
6. Super Noypi - A superhero movie again, but one that I refuse to watch. Sandara Park is there, and she isn't even Filipino! Why would she call herself Super Noypi? PFFT to that!
7. Shake, Rattle, and Roll 8 - NO. Just...NO.
8. Mano Po 5: Gua Ai Di - I stopped watching Mano Po movies after the first one. So there's no way I'd watch this. Especially since it has Ethel Booba in it, who is SO NOT Chinese!
9. ZsaZsa Zaturnnah: Zhe Moveeh - I WANNA WATCH THIS!!! I love the graphic novel, so I'm curious about the movie. xD
