proof that the universe hates me

Exams and preceptorials to be taken/done this week:
Monday: Neuropathology Module Exam 1
Tuesday: Neurologic Examination Practicals
Wednesday: Ethics of Brain Death SGD (AM), Hemorrhagic Stroke Case SGD (PM)
Thursday: Neurological Patient Encounter
Friday: Clinico-pathologic Conference case presentation
Stuff that I was able to do:
Monday: Neuropathology Module Exam 1 (which I bombed, boo! D:)
Tuesday: Neurologic Examination Practicals (which I aced, yay! :D)
Wednesday: nil
But Val, you may ask, why aren't you able to accomplish the other tasks?

Well, it may be because I was diagnosed with freaking pneumonia.

I had a cold for most of last week (which brought on an asthma attack, so I was a snot-producing, wheezing blob of flesh since last week, blegh), which I attributed to the icky weather (hot during the day, cold as hell at night) and my relative immunocompromised state brought about by my lack of sleepytimes. Then I had a 38.5C fever on Sunday night, which persisted the entire day on Monday (hence the less-than-stellar performance on the exam) and woke up with a 39C fever on Tuesday. Finished the Neuro PE practicals in the morning (which I got through only by the grace of someone/-thing holy) and decided to skip the afternoon lectures on Tuesday so I could get myself checked out. Chest findings are negative at the moment, but the doctor heard rales on one of my lungs (I forgot which lung, I was kind of out of it yesterday), so I may have to get another one later just to confirm the diagnosis for the medical certificate I have to give the school to excuse my absence from the requirements I'll miss this week.

The doctor actually wanted to admit me into the hospital right then and there, but in the end decided not to when she learned that we have a nebulizer at home. So she prescribed me 2 antibiotics (the price of which made my dad's eyes bug out) and changed my asthma meds from salbutamol alone to salbutamol + ipratropium, with an added bonus of salmeterol + fluticasone.

Types of drug classes I'm currently taking: 1 macrolide, 1 second-generation cephalosporin, 2 B2-adrenergic agonists (1 short-acting and 1 long-acting), 1 anticholinergic, and 1 glucocorticoid. Yeah.

My bedside table is occupied by my antibiotics, my inhaler, and a huge bottle of water. The floor beside my bed is littered with discarded pieces of tissue that I was not able to shoot into the trashbin I placed beside me.

Why oh why do I have to get sick this week? D:
