the golden compass
I watched The Golden Compass with my mom last night. I didn't write about it then 'cause I was cramming for PSY104. xD
- The actress'--Dakota Whatshername's--acting was inconsistent throughout the movie. You could actually see which parts they filmed first.
- The CGI was good. Most of the daemons didn't even look as if they were CG. I like the kids' daemons, in particular; they shift so smoothly from one form to another. xD
- While the scenes followed each other logically, I can't help but feel that the story was choppy and, well, flat. Yeah, I think that's the right word to use; the film was flat.
- I don't like the way they introduced the Gyptians.
- They changed the ending. THEY CHANGED THE ENDING. I could see that the film ended perfectly, if one were concerned only with the plot, but...the book's ending was so beautiful: Lyra and Pan, off to find the source of Dust, and possibly stop Lord Asriel from destroying it if it turns out to be not so bad as the adults think.
- THIS MOVIE ISN'T ANTI-CATHOLIC. In fact, it's so un-anti-Catholic that most of the scenes suffered for it.
- I may dislike parts of this movie only because I've read the book. I have no idea whether it worked for people who haven't.
