GODDAMNIT. I think I sprained my ankle. I did the R.I.C.E. thing earlier; now I'm waiting for my mom to get me to the E.R.

I wish they'd allow me to go to school tomorrow. I have a theo quiz, for cripe's sake!

So, today was the first day of the second semester. I'm really, reaaaally tired now. *collapses in a heap*

ch11 )

HI18 - I like my teacher's sense of humor. xD Also, he doesn't want to be called "Sir M," so he encouraged us to call him Your Excellency, Your Grace, Your Majesty, Lord, Master, Dauphin, Count, etc. HA. Also, he called David Wenham's characer in 300 "Faramir," which hints at his knowledge of [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's Movies in Fifteen Minutes -- thereby raising his coolness factor by 10000%. xD He also doesn't like checking papers, so NO PAPERS FOR THIS CLASS YAY! *does happy dance* I think this'll be the best class I'll have this semester. xD The only bad side is that I have to trudge all the way from Schmitt Hall to the ISO building in 10 minutes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. *sigh* It's a good thing our teacher doesn't mind late people, since his classroom, as he said, is "nasa ibang lupalop ng mundo." :D

Okay. Not only did they move the School of Social Sciences to Leong Hall, which is freaking far from the buildings where classes are held, the Psychology Department could now be found on the third floor. *sigh* The only consolation I can find is that the Economics majors got the short end of the stick, as their department is on the fourth floor.

I wonder what they'll do to the old Social Sciences building? It would be a colossal waste of resources if they demolish it, as the building is perfectly fine as it is.

So. We went to Cebu last Thursday and we only just got home. We stayed at a very, very PINK hotel. Also, I got dark(er), and ate more lapu-lapu than you can shake a stick at. Hee.

In other news, I'm halfway done with Season 2 of House. I've decided that I really, really hate Foreman (die, men with overly long eyelashes! Die!), and that Hugh Laurie is made of awesome and is permanently drenched in awesomesauce. :D (I also just realized why Robert Sean Leonard looks familiar -- he played Neil in Dead Poets Society. Clearly my visual association cortex is dysfunctional.)

ETA: I wish someone would claim prompt #119. xD

WHY DID I NOT KNOW THAT HOUSE IS PLAYED BY HUGH LAURIE?

I feel so stupid right now. I've heard about House, of course, about how great a show it is, but I haven't seen any promo stills, or if I had, it didn't register correctly because not once did it click that the face staring out at me from the Season One DVD is actually Hugh-freaking-Laurie's until I saw the opening credits!

I must one of the most obtuse people in the world. *sigh*

ETA: I'm watching episode five right now, and oh God the eyeroll! Mr. Laurie was doing The Eyeroll which always always makes me squee with glee. Hee. :D

ETA2: It's 5:54am and I HAVEN'T SLEPT YET. Am turning in now though, as I've just finished watching episode 17.

I don't like the little snapshot things they have on external links in the journals. And the easy-to-navigate-in customization area was RUINED. It's too inefficient to use now! GAH!

1. Still haven't gone around to watching Serenity, as I'm pleasantly distracted by Criminal Minds.

2. One of the reasons why I love snarky people.

3. Am getting stir-crazy. (Damn my paranoia re: malls and bombs. Makes me not want to get out of the house anymore. Of course, that is the main objective of terrorist bombings. It's obvious that they succeeded in cowing me. Doesn't really help that I'm already paranoid in the first place.)

the interests she picked are: panic! at the disco, british dudes, crack pairings, oxford comma, renaissance artists, graphic art, cluedo )

Seven icons meme, again gakked from [livejournal.com profile] boz4pm.
Comment on this post. I'll choose seven userpics from your profile and you'll reply in your journal, explaining what they mean and why you're using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

You know what I want to read? A LOTR fanfic with a boy, instead of a girl, falling into Middle-earth. Alas that I only found one, and not only did it mangle canon so badly, it did so in a way I've never seen before that I simply had to continue reading.

Imagine, if you will, a typical English schoolboy trying to speak French in Rohan (yes, I know) and being incarcerated for knowing "Elvish". But that's not all! Apparently, hobbits of the Shire speak English, and Westron is apparently another name for German. Hee.

It made my brain explode so bad, I wanted to read it again. Reading the fic was fun, especially the part where a nice Rohirric lass gets pushed on him so they'd be wed. *snerk*

Crap. Apparently, there are no slots left in any of Tirol's Hi18 classes. Woe, woe. Hopefully, Manaois's classes still have slots left by the time it's my turn to enlist.

I was helping my sister look for a poem suitable for sharing with her creative writing class tomorrow, when I found my copies of Eric Gamalinda's poetry. Seriously, that man is my favorite English-writing poet, but I couldn't pinpoint just why I love his poetry so much. He grew up in the Philippines, but he doesn't write like a Filipino. He's living in the US right now, but he doesn't write like an American. His style is...well, I can't explain it. You just have to read him for yourself, I guess.

Anyway, the poem my sister eventually chose is, of course, by Gamalinda. It's fairly simple and straightforward.

Today was busy. I first went to school to submit something, then proceeded to go to the National Center for Mental Health. (Which is just a tricycle ride away from the Boni MRT station -- which, in turn, is two minutes away from here if I run really fast. Methinks I shall do my practicum there if Medical City won't have me, ha. It's conveniently near. xD)

Random NCMH trivia: The hospital used to be called the "Insular Psychopathic Center" but people didn't like the word "psychopathic" on the hospital's name because not all patients admitted there are psychopaths, so they changed it. xD

I ran into TJ and Cri when I got to NCMH's administration building... )

NCMH was...interesting, to say the least. We only went to the most public of wards, aka the wards where the not-so-dangerous patients don't pay for anything but their medicines. (Actually, it was only recently that patients are required to pay for their meds. The slashes in the government budget allocation for the hospital forced them to charge fees these days.) (That's also the same situation with UP right now, but I'm not opening that can of worms, nuh-uh...)

First stop was Pavillion 1, where the adult male patients are kept. According to our guide (I didn't catch his name, his voice was so soft that I couldn't hear him too well as I was near the back), most of the male patients were sent to them because they went mad from substance abuse. There are some wards there that don't have beds in the day so the patients won't have weapons to kill others or themselves with. Other wards have normal beds on them, but those patients are still monitored closely. Walking through that pavillion gave me the creeps, if only because of the huge amounts of testosterone surrounding me. Ahaha. I've never been in the presence of so many men in my life before, and I don't want to repeat that experience ever again if I could help it.

Next was Pavillion 2, which is where the out-patients are directed. There wasn't too much to see there, so I won't say much anymore. I'd like to point out, though, that it didn't smell the way it did at Pavillion 1. Some say that mentally ill people have a strange scent lingering over them. I really didn't believe that before, though now I belive that that's true, after all.

Pavillion 3 is where the adult female patients are kept. We didn't tour the premises though, as the patients were all out of the building because it was time for outdoor group therapy. Our guide said that after conducting a study among the female patients, they usually start gaining confidence in themselves when interacting with male nurses after spending a while trying to acclimate to their surroundings, so there were more male nurses in the female pavillion than there are female nurses in the male pavillion. (See, I was wondering about that fact when I looked at the nurses more closely. It's nice to have something explained to you without you having to ask a question in the first place, heh.) Most of the women were institutionalized because of mood disorders; only a really small percentage of them were substance abusers.

Our final stop was where the male adolescents are kept, Pavillion 6. The youngest patient there is eleven, and the eldest was seventeen, I think. Anyway, I think it's been a long time since they've seen girls near their age, so they started catcalling and doing other teenage-boy-y stuff (and calling Rai and Lulu "magagandang ate!" ahaha xD). We didn't go to the female adolescents' pavillion because, according to our guide, the patients there are touchier, and might react adversely to our presence there. Or something like that.

We had a photoshooting session with Sir C after we all answered his evaluation sheet, and OMG HE'S SUCH A CAMWHORE AHAHA. xD

After the field trip, Rai, Lulu, TJ, and Cri all went to my house to play bowling and bum around. )

All in all, today was fun, if a bit tiring. :)

On another note, the "My Grades" link on AISIS was removed. GAH. Now I'll be forced to speculate and obsess about my grades for a longer period of time than I would have if they hadn't taken off that function from the system. (Am strangely reminded of what one of the people from the other PSY106 class said. "ADMU is filled with all sorts of certifiably crazy people, if we're going by the DSM-IV-R's definition of craziness." Ahaha. I don't know why I suddenly remember that, though.)
