For some strange reason, I can't help but write the following drabble...
Sundered from her roots is she, yet unwilling to break away from the past from which she has sprung. She is apart from her surroundings for her honest attempts to cling to something that isn't there anymore though still striving to meet the future head-on ostracizes her.
Some think she is worthy of scorn; indeed, why could she not choose between the past and the future? Why does she choose to torment herself by not letting go of something that does not exist anymore?
Others pity her, thinking to themselves: oh, this poor, poor girl, stuck between two extremes - not willing to break free from constraints of what was yet unable to fully embrace the zeal of what is still to come - not understood by anyone at all, because why, why would a sane person commit himself to a half life?
Yet there are those who do not care about her, because she is an individual, and she certainly isn't stupid, and if she thinks that she is mistaken, then she will find the right way for her at the right time without anybody's interference.
But nobody, nobody tries to understand her. Understand why she could not - WOULD NOT! - let go of things that were. Understand why she fears the future yet tries to meet it, like a maiden with one foot at the boat and the other at the docks. Because they are scared - afraid, fearful tErRiFiEd - that maybe - just MAYBE - the girl's attitude has some merit after all. Because they don't like to be thwarted.
No, they don't like that at all.
Which is why she is shunned. Which is why she is scorned, pitied and ignored. Which is why she looks at them with such big, doleful eyes.
Because she mourns for them all.
And that makes her all the more different.
Hmph. ::yawns:: I'm going off to sleep now...
